Bruce Paine with the Hampshire Area Guitar Orchestra

I was to witness a fine solo performance for the first half, followed by a riotously good piece of ensemble playing from the ten-piece Hampshire Area Guitar Orchestra.

A tidy, confident player Paine gave a very positive performance that impressed the audience…they hadn't thought that the solo guitar could be so good and have such a variety of tone.

Then on to one of Spain's great melodists Federico Moreno Torroba and five tunes from his Castillos en Espanol; these were great to hear and Paine's calm posture belied some poetic forces working themselves into a lather;…

Bruce did a very good job and won over with his calm and poised manner.

Bruce Paine is a gentleman and I applaud Derek Hasted for bringing great music played on guitar to a wider audience...
