2009 : December Concert Review |
Feedback from David Nutt of the Classic Guitar Society of Auckland
This is just to say again how impressed and thrilled I was by these last two concerts. In both cases people were coming up to me grasping for superlatives.
Your works make the traditional concert programmes seem dull and uninteresting. Of course Bach and Albeniz etc are wonderful but there is something about the immediacy of having your original pieces that is so exciting.
The sense of atmosphere in the Mountain Muses is so strong. There is something very lonely about being on a mountain by yourself that the piece captures perfectly. The waltz makes me see embroidered dress and swirling turns. The Indian piece is not pastiche but a piece that works by itself but uses Indian sounds. This is a great way of getting an original feel. The Finchdean piece was an excellent way to finish. It fits the guitar so perfectly.
I am convinced that work this good must eventually receive the wide recognition that it deserves. For myself, I just feel privileged to have been there.
