A generally accepted advantage of developing a good right hand tremolo technique is that it will have a flow-on effect in other areas of your playing, such as scales and arpeggios.  The most likely reason for this is that tremolo technique builds and maintains right hand strength and coordination necessary for other aspects of playing.  Of course working on tremolo alone won't instantly make you able to play scales and arpeggios well.  An equal amount of time must be devoted to those areas separately.  Eventually you might discover, as many others have, that the rapid succession of three right hand fingers necessary in tremolo can also be employed in scale playing.  For example  it is possible to play rapid scales with greater ease with three fingers than when alternating just two.
