"GUITARRA" poem by Federico Garcia Lorca

"GUITARRA" by Federico Garcia Lorca

The cry of the guitar
begins.
The crystal goblets of dawn
shatter.
The cry of the guitar
begins.
It is useless to silence it.
It is impossible
to silence it.
It weeps monotonously
like water weeps,
like the wind wails
over the fallen snow.
It is impossible
to silence it.
It weeps for things
distant.
The sand of the hot South
aches for white camelias.
The arrow without target,
the evening without morning,
and the first bird
dead upon the branch,
weep.
O guitar-
heart grieviously wounded
by fives knives!
