"Sloky O Praze" (Poem of Prague)

Czech
English

Tebe Praho je tak tezke opoustet

Tve Hradcany a Tveho Mikulase

tvoje vlastovky, jez odletaji plase

s vezi, kam se vraceji vzdy

Parlando: z tech cest jez vedou z Petrina

k tomu jeste cosi

tvou, tvou Poesii

kez by slysel clovek tvoje zvony znet

az mu sluch jiz ztrati smysl pro tva slova

Tebe, Praho je tak tezke opouset

pro Tvou krasu, Praho, chtel bych ziti znova

It is so difficult to leave you Prague

Your castle area and your Christmas "Mikulas" celebration

your swallows who fly away shyly

with towers, to which they always return back in the spring

from the paths leading away from Petrin hill

which [one] never tires of

Vltava, from which only the surface glitters

like skin of fish which I am somewhat "above"

at thousands of windows roofs and [window]shutters

in which live thousands of people like I live myself

your rusty roofs that nothing compares to (*)

something else yet to add ..

your, your poetry

if a person could only hear your bells sounding

until hearing would lose meaning for your words

You Prague, it is so difficult to leave

for your beauty, Prague, I would like to live once more
